Cruising on a Ferretti-made yacht means to feel the stability of an expert build, sensing what tremendous work and craftsmanship went into constructing this piece of engineering naval perfection. Surely, you will marvel at the sleekness of the exterior and the smooth transition between deck profiles, while you seamlessly shift between different living spaces. This Italian approach to design adds an extra touch of the avant-garde and an added dash of something totally exclusive and absolutely luxurious, found only on Ferretti-made yachts.
Allow yourself to be taken away by the masterfully arranged furniture or the awesome use of space and luxuriate in comfortable fabrics and tactile leathers, while walking on woollen carpets. Ferretti knows how to stimulate all of your senses in order to create truly incredible experiences, knowing full well that the secret of yachting lies in the details. To better understand these details, here are 5 key factors that make Ferretti what it is today, a global leader in the production of luxury yachts.
The Philosophy of Ferretti Yachts
Ferretti yachts are like second homes for potential clients, becoming a refuge where one can seek privacy and intimacy, while also enabling the enjoyment of ultimate freedom. With luxurious amenities and avant-garde design, Ferretti yachts offer unique experiences in the great outdoors, while also bringing them to you.
Starting a sea journey always has a certain allure of adventure – on a Ferretti yacht, it is almost tangible. This enables Ferretti yachts to rise above trends and above simple fashion shifts: these vessels represent the eternal aesthetic principle of elegance, harmony and grace. Art that is constantly evolving – these are the words that perfectly describe the exterior of a Ferretti yacht.
The interior is something else entirely; thoroughly comfortable textures and soothing materials create an inviting atmosphere, that beckons potential clients to lay back and unwind in utter luxury. Ferretti is, in fact, a provider of experiences that make life at sea last longer than a lifetime, prolonging every second beyond infinity.
Uncovering secrets of forgotten isles and discovering the incredible beauty of the ocean floor – this is what it means to chart a journey on a Ferretti yacht. Time slows down, allowing you to enjoy every moment spent with the people closest to you; the vastness of the sea always has this effect on travellers who move by correct means and in the right direction.
History of Ferretti Yachts
Ferretti was established in 1968 by the Ferretti brothers; Norberto and Alessandro began as manufacturers of small sailing boats, producing their first 10-meter motor sailer in 1971. A decade later, Ferretti established itself by building its first fully-motorized yacht.
The 80s brought with them the beginning of superyacht stylisation, which sought to merge luxury and performance. The Ferretti brothers saw this as an opportunity and begin focusing their production on luxury yachts with a motor. This smart business move saw an exponential increase in production and in the 90s, Ferretti went international, opening offices in America, Venezuela, Mexico, Canada and the Caribbean.
1996 saw the birth of Ferretti Custom line, Ferretti`s subsidiary, which specialised in producing luxury yachts between 28 and 40 meters in length. Ferretti expanded their network by acquiring numerous smaller and bigger shipyards, including:
- CNA (Cantieri Navali dell’Adriatico) in 1998,
- CRN in 1999 – this shipyard specializes in megayachts from 45 to 90 meters
- Riva in 2000; this shipyard specialised in luxury fibreglass yachts, from 10 to 35 meters
- Mochi shipyard in 2001 – fishing and lobster vessles, from 13 to 23 meters.
- Cantiere Navale Mario Morini in 2002
- Itama in 2004; this shipyard specializes in open motor yachts, from 14 to 23 meters
- Allied Marine in 2008
After their exponential growth, Ferretti was finally acquired by the Weichai group in 2012, a large Chinese multinational. Despite this, Ferretti managed to preserve its core identity and values and continued to build modern and elegant yachts to this day.
Types of Ferretti yachts
A global force in the luxury yachting market, Ferretti manages to stay ahead of its competition by always surpassing its set goals, constantly one-upping itself in all aspects of yacht production.
Pioneering the way for others, many technologies that Ferretti implemented in their designs were novel, to say the least, but as time passes every decision made by this shipyard seemed to be the right one, allowing them to constantly hone their expertise in producing more and more revolutionary models.
As years passed, Ferretti enmassed quite a list of different models and types of yachts, including – Ferretti 1000- the newest addition, Ferretti 920, Ferretti 860, Ferretti 850, Ferretti 780, Ferretti 760, Ferretti 720, Ferretti 680, Ferretti 670, Ferretti 550, Ferretti 500
Notable Ferretti yachts
Since the Ferretti group is one of the largest superyacht conglomerates in the world, there is no ocean, sea or river that does not contain at least one Ferretti, in one form or the other. For this reason, it would be folly to list every notable yacht made by this shipyard; instead, here is a comprehensive list of some examples of certain Ferretti types, in no specific order.
Yacht type: Ferretti 780
Notable example: Tesoro
Ferretti is widely recognized as one of the first “lifestyle” shipyards in Italy, perceiving from very early on that to build luxury yachts means adhering to well-established principles and core values, like luxury, innovation and sustainability. These values are present in every yacht made by Ferretti, and Tesoro is no exception…
Tesoro is also a prime example of Ferretti` incredible naval architecture – her 24 meters of length hide more amenities and social spaces that one could consider possible on such a compact yacht. This means that this yacht is perfect for a family-orientated holiday or a smaller intimate group of friends.
Tesoro can take in a maximum of 8 people in 4 cabins, the configuration of which are 2 double cabins and two twin cabins, that are also convertible into doubles, for more versatility when taking care of sleeping arrangements.
Ferretti launched Tesoro in 2008, with the latest refit being in 2019, which made Tesoro able to compete with yachts of the same length category. Fielding 3 crew members onboard, Tesoro will offer an intimate but enjoyable atmosphere, where potential clients and members of the crew will behave in a more relaxed and informal manner.
This does not mean that the quality of the hospitality service will suffer; on the contrary, the dedicated charter crew will always have the clients best interest at heart.
Reaching an incredible speed of 32 knots, Tesoro`s manoeuvrability and performance can be compared to sport yachts, built around the concept of swiftness. This ability allows Tesoro to speed between different locations in less time, thereby providing a richer and more exciting itinerary to potential clients.
Yacht type: Ferretti 880
Notable examples: Miss Katariina
Hailing from a heritage rich with experience, when it comes to launching luxury superyachts, Ferretti constructed Katariina as a trailblazer, setting guidelines about yacht design and construction, that are still followed today.
The construction of Katariina took place in 2004, but since then, she has received numerous refits, the last one being in 2019, which put her right on track with the latest and greatest Ferretti-built yachts. Her 27 meters can provide everything available on bigger yachts, with potential clients enjoying her modularity and smart use of social spaces, both outside and in.
She can accommodate up to 10 guests in 4 cabins, which is an incredible feat for a yacht with Karatiina`s length. Her cabin setup can be used for many different sleeping arrangements, seeing that her two twin cabins also have additional pullman berths, ideal for sleeping children.
Katariina`s hull shape and size allow her to accomplish incredible speeds, reaching 31 knots at top speed and 24 knots at cruising speed. This means that Katariina offers more flexibility, when it comes to time management; potential clients can enjoy a sunset dinner in a private cove and still make it to shore in time to enjoy summer festivals, before the last light of the day has vanished.
Yacht type: Ferretti 760
Notable example: Quo Vadis I
A relatively new yacht, Quo Vadis was constructed by Ferretti in 2019, making her a charter champion, able to satisfy a wide range of the client`s wishes, without sacrificing elegant design or smart architectural solutions.
Able to house up to 8 guests in 4 cabins, Quo Vadis offers contemporary accommodations with an enjoyable atmosphere, all with that unmistakable Italian signature of the Ferretti in-house team. Using glossy surfaces in the interior to accentuate natural daylight, while also offering modern commodities, Quo Vadis is sure to entice potential clients to appreciate her forward-thinking design.
The competent and experienced crew of three will take care of every guest aboard Quo Vadis, thanks to her exterior sunbathing and dining areas, as well as incredibly Michelin-level food coming out of the galley. For entertainment, many high-tech gadgets, as well as fun water toys, will be at the guest`s disposal 24/7.
With maximum speeds reaching 33 knots, Quo Vadis is very rarely stationary; the true nature of this yacht comes to light when she is swiftly gliding over the water`s edge and into new and exciting adventures. Never needing to stop at the same place twice, Quo Vadis is ideal for travellers who want to see as much as possible, in the shortest amount of time.
Yacht type: 680(681)
Notable example: Dominique
A very compact yacht, Dominique`s 21 meters of length are ideal for an intimate group of friends or a tight family circle. Despite her compactness, she is recognized for her stylishness and swiftness, as well as timeless design and very smart usage of limited space.
She was built by Ferretti in 2006 and has since developed a good reputation as an excellent charter vessel. Her last refit was in 2020, which made Dominique up to par with all the other newly-built yachts that fall under the same length category as her. Loaded with fun and modern amenities, Dominique allows her potential clients to experience what it means to spend time on a luxury yacht.
She can accommodate a maximum of 8 guests, allocated in 4 cabins, comprised of two double and two twin cabins. An intimate crew of two (plus one if you hire a chef) means that every guest will experience unparalleled privacy and intimacy on their vacation.
The Value of Ferretti yachts
Besides the obvious excellent craftsmanship of every Ferretti-made yacht, there are still numerous hidden values that become apparent once you scratch the surface of Ferretti`s monumental heritage.
Ferretti seeks knowledge in the most unusual of places, because of the drive and the motivation for discovering all there is to know about the nautical world. This, coupled with the need for fame and a good marketing plan, made the company enter the boat racing circuit in 1989.
Only 5 years were needed until Norberto Ferretti won the Championship title in the Class 1 Offshore category, in 1994. This success was repeated in 1995, when Ferretti won the European Offshore Championship, while 1997 brought with it two gold medals, from the European and World championships in offshore racing.
Ferretti yachts held that their successes are a direct result of their innovative hull design and new materials & technologies they implemented in the creation of their racing boats. What they learned while racing, Ferretti implemented in the construction of their luxury yachts as well.
Thanks to modern hull design and cutting-edge technology, every Ferretti-made yacht guarantees noise emissions within the ISO 14509 limits, as well as the Design Category A meaning that the strength of the hull meets every imaginable sea condition. These technical aspects do not interfere with the masterful design of the exterior nor the subtle design features of the interior living spaces, which bring together form and function.
Ferretti also invests tremendous amounts of resources in developing new technologies that have one purpose – to make living on board these yachts an experience unlike any other. These include innovations such as the Ferreti Trim and Drag reduction technology (or F-TDR, for short), the Steer-by-wire hydraulic system or the XFT (Cross fibre technology that helps to infuse the lamination process, thus creating stronger, more durable but at the same time lighter and more flexible superstructures).
The ISO 9001:2015 certification guarantees that all the processes inside the Ferretti shipyard go through rigorous processes of quality control. These processes inspect every step of production, from designing to construction and outfitting, allowing for unparalleled customer satisfaction, as well as safety in the workspace and the quality of the final product itself.
